Collective Consciousness
We reside in a sea which eyes cannot perceive…
Conscious —> Conscience —> Awareness —> Connection
We are all connected, the containers which separate us (bodies, minds, distance, etc.) are illusory. That’s not to say we don’t honor the garden of personal experience but, rather, that we keep in mind the concepts of love, compassion and creation when we are in our darkest points in life - feeling unworthy, ungrateful and destructive.
All things in balance. How can one know love without experiencing hate? This reality is dualistic and each concept is, seemingly, defined by its opposite. There is a great truth to be (re)discovered by each and every one of us; your belief is what shapes your reality.
I love the Greek ideas on consciousness (and Greek philosophy in general), they have many domains of thought on this topic but here are four main concepts which can provide a helpful framework in attempting to wrestle with understanding them:
Psyche (ψυχή): often translated as "soul" or "spirit," it referred to the essence of life and was associated with mental processes and awareness, consciousness.
Nous (νοῦς): this term means "mind" or "intellect" and is often associated with higher reasoning and understanding. It was used by philosophers like Plato and Aristotle to describe the rational aspect of the human mind.
Thumos (θυμός): this word refers to spiritedness or passion and was sometimes associated with aspects of consciousness related to emotions and desires.
Logos (λόγος): while primarily meaning "word" or "reason," it also encompassed ideas of rational thought and understanding, contributing to the broader concept of consciousness.
When we become more aware of the world around us, we begin to recognize patterns. It is easy to get lost in the “sauce” and identify our emotional state with our circumstances. Most of us are unaware that we hold the power to change our reality through conscious awareness. Of course, this must start from within to bear any significance.
You may notice things around you but your efficacy in the greater world will be limited as you will find there is anwaful lot you don’t know and, furthermore, a near-infinite supply of things you don’t even know you don’t know.
The fire of knowledge illuminates the surrounding areas of unknowing. The more I learn the more I realize I can learn.
When you turn your awareness inwards something magical happens; the world around you begins to change. This is a phenomena exposed by many of history’s most brilliant and enigmatic minds and cultures. The Ancient Yogis held this concept as factual and evident. This is what the yogic system is really all about; your awakening.
Nothing is more important than your journey on earth.
It is my contention that all religious works are either explicitly or esoterically guiding the practitioner towards their ultimate destiny of enlightenment. I have come to realize that these scriptures are metaphorical in nature, as well as literal in many cases, displaying the fractal nature of reality and truth. These writings are no mere wise quips, but guides to master your physiology, lower mind and integrate the higher mind into your waking reality.
One need not become a monk or a saint, give up all possessions to live on a mountaintop monastery or attempt to change the world in any way to realize their own divinity. You only need to let go and have faith in the plan which has been made for you and, perhaps, BY you.
Certainly, you cannot be ruled by trinkets, money or status. You cannot be on this path and hold a narcissistic worldview as pettiness and selfishness is an empty shadow of who you really are. The ego is not YOU, it is akin to Artificial Intelligence simply compiling data sets, weighing options and pointing out errors with solutions it only derives from how it has been previously trained.
When we realize this we can let go of shame and guilt. As we become aware, the ego has less control over us. This is a choice to recognize the ego as a tool and to retrain it to serve your higher purpose.
Twin Flames
So, where does the COLLECTIVE consciousness come into play? Well, think of each human individual as a light bulb. Spirit is the electricity which illuminates each bulb. Even though we have our separate containers, we all share the same electrical current of pure consciousness.
When you awaken and reprogram your thoughts to be divine, loving, compassionate, etc. then you feed that powerful perspective into the whole of human consciousness. Everyone will benefit from your journey in this way. More pragmatically, when you walk your intended path you will find people on your journey who are there to guide you and people who you are meant to help.
If you are stuck in the proverbial woods then you are the one who needs saving. When you figure out how to get back to your path then your journey is smooth, almost effortless at times. That is why I like to use the metaphor of navigation tools to get back on track. If you’re lost in old traumas and stuck patterns then you will learn how to survive in “the woods” and may lose sight of the path completely, forgetting it.
If you develop the tools (like a compass) to traverse back, then things become more clear, you can see way down the line, your future, and each milestone only becomes a game of one step, then another…
The idea that your own healing could profoundly impact the people around you, your relationships, how other perceive you and the greater world at large, is nothing new or radical. All those who begin to align with their path and their true nature realize this.
It has been my own experience. The more layers of the lower mind, the ego, I cast off the more value I offer society and the more I love and respect myself. Parts of me fought this journey, tooth and nail. Each time a revelation about myself would arise I would run from it.
The pain felt too great to confront. The pain of my mistakes, my character flaws, my unhealed trauma; childhood wounds which caused me to do unsavory and arrogant things… I did everything possible not to sit with them, not to make things right.
Ironically, the pain was all from NOT confronting them!
After over a decade of being on a conscious and purposeful healing journey, both Adri and myself have realized a certain level of self-actualization that have given us maturity, growth and stillness. At some point, something just clicked. All the practices added up and the final step of accountability, ownership of my unhealed wounds, facing the mirror fully - it saved me. It saved both of us.
Now the world seems different. All of a sudden it’s as if I have shifted into another dimension. Everything seems possible. Only good outcomes are fathomable. Each piece of seemingly bad news is viewed as a learning opportunity and, then, the bad part never comes…
The vision for my future self is crystal clear. The people around me will all benefit from the love I am cultivating. Everything is a beautiful lesson and an opportunity to experience another dimension to life.
I never knew compassion until I turned it on myself.
This is the only revolution I want to be a part of; a revolution of the collective consciousness.
